Why the gable roof is so affordable and durable
Thanks to its simple geometry of two surfaces sloped against each other, the gable roof is the most economical of all common roof shapes. It requires fewer valleys, hips and junctions than, say, a hipped roof (Walmdach), which reduces material effort and sources of error. Another practical plus is water run-off: rain and snow slide off the sloped surfaces instead of collecting as they do on flatter structures.
