The steep lower roof section of the mansard roof ensures that the walls in the attic stand almost vertically. Instead of restrictive slopes you thus get a fully furnishable floor with a tall wall area for wardrobes, windows and furniture. At the same time the overall height of the house stays moderate, because the upper roof part runs out shallowly.
